Statement
My practice as a mixed media artist focuses on my emotional state, often stemming from an experience or inner psyche. The creative process starts by isolating the physical environment and sentiment associated with my emotional state, then developing different concepts through writing and thumbnail sketches. After assessing material and iterating composition, I craft a physical representation of abstract thought.
I understand abstract thought through symbolism and texture and share these elements in the creative process with Frida Kahlo. Kahlo is a Mexican painter who inspires my process not only through her artistic practice of self-expression but also through her culture and ideals. Like Kahlo, I aim to be cryptic about personal sentiments but desire to be understood.
I find the artistic process therapeutic and necessary to navigate internal and external pressures, making creative and personal growth vital for my work.
